What is the Savvy Score?

A 0–100 rating for every fare, every day. We don't compare against ads or "sale" prices — we compare against that route's own history, so a high score in Bali means the same thing as a high score in Tokyo: genuinely cheap.

How the Savvy Score works →

Rare · 85–100

Book now. Fares this low rarely last the day.

Hot · 75–84

Almost gone — a great fare, well below the usual range.

Strong · 65–74

Don't miss it. Solid value if your dates line up.

Dropping · 55–64

Watch closely — the price is heading your way.

Stable · 45–54

Around the usual range — no rush, wait it out.

Overpriced · 0–44

Skip it. You'd be paying a premium.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Savvy Score work?

The Savvy Score is a 0–100 rating we update every morning. We track live fares on flights from Australia to Asia and compare each one against that route's own recent price history. A high score means today's fare is genuinely cheap for that route; a low score means it's overpriced. Every fare falls into one of six tiers, from Rare (85–100, book now) to Overpriced (0–44, skip) — so you get a clear book, watch or wait answer instead of guessing.

When is the cheapest time to fly to Asia from Australia?

It varies by route, but one pattern holds across all of them: fares spike during the Australian school holidays — July especially — so travelling in the quieter shoulder weeks either side is usually cheaper. Rather than rely on a single cheapest month, we score each day's fare against that route's own history so you can see when a genuine deal actually appears.

Is it cheaper to book flights earlier?

Usually — but how much earlier matters, and it differs by route. Flying to Bali, waiting even a month cost more on 49 of 49 dates we tracked (a median 32% extra), so book early. Flying to Tokyo, the fare is flat from one to four months out, so booking super-early saves nothing — one to three months is the sweet spot. The one rule everywhere: leaving it to the final fortnight is always the dearest option.

How far in advance should I book flights to Bali, Japan or Vietnam?

From the fares we've tracked: Bali — as early as you can, the price only climbs. Tokyo/Japan — one to three months out (earlier doesn't help, later costs you). Vietnam — at least a couple of months ahead, and earlier still helps a little. For the live call on any given day, check that route's Savvy Score.
